אני ממש אוהבת ספרי בלש בסגנון פילם נואר. הבלש הקשוח, זאב בודד שפועל על פי מערכת ערכים פנימית. צ’נדלר היה אחד מהסופרים שהכי השפיעו על הסיגנון הזה.

סידרת הבלש “פיליפ מארלו” כוללת 8 ספרים, מהם תורגמו 2 ספרים בהוצאת כתר. 

משום מה ההוצאה בחרה לתרגם את “האישה באגם” ואת “פלייבק” ולא פרסמו את הספרים הראשונים בסידרה וגם לא את האחרונים. מאחר ובין הספרים שלי באנגלית יש לי את כל השמונה, החלטתי להתחיל עם הספרים שתורגמו לעברית ואת היתר לקרוא לפי הסדר.

“האישה באגם” פורסם בשנת 1943. הבלש פיליפ מארלו מבצע חקירה לאיתור אישתו של קינגסלי, סוחר עשיר מלוס אנג’לס. במהלך החקירה הוא נתקל בגופת אישה שטבעה באגם שצמוד לביתו ההררי של קינגסלי.

איתור הגופה מסבכת את החקירה וכשמרלו חוזר ללוס אנג’לס, הוא נתקל בקשיים נוספים מול המשטרה.

באופן בלתי נמנע לעלילת פילם נואר, כמה ירצחו וגופותיהם ימצאו; כמה ייסחטו. כמעט כולם ישקרו למארלו, ויהפכו את עבודתו לקשה עוד יותר. שוטרים מושחתים יכו אותו, יאיימו להפליל אותו בפשעים מסוגים שונים. אבל, מארלו ימשיך נחוש לחשוף את האמת.

הוא לא ממש מחבב את הלקוח שלו או כל דמות אחרת בעלילה אבל זו העבודה שלו והוא יעשה אותה על הצד הטוב ביותר.

הספר כולל את כל המאפיינים של הפילם נואר: הבלש הבודד שפועל על פי מערכת קודים פנימית, על הגבול של הפלילי, בשביל לחשוף שוטרים מושחתים ולהגיע לשורש האמת.

הפיתולים בעלילה הובילו אותי לקרוא במקביל באנגלית ובעברית בכדי שלא אפספס דבר. ההתרה קצת הזויה אבל ככלל הספר והביצוע באודיובל נפלא.

I like detective books in the film noir style. The tough detective is a lone wolf who operates according to an internal value system. Chandler was one of the authors who most influenced this style.

The detective series “Philip Marlowe” includes eight books, two translated by Keter Publishing.

For some reason, the publisher chose to translate “The Woman in the Lake” and “Playback” and did not publish the first books in the series or the last ones. Since among my books in English, I have all eight, I started with the books translated into Hebrew and read the rest in order.

“The Woman in the Lake” was published in 1943. Detective Philip Marlowe investigates to locate the wife of Kingsley, a wealthy merchant from Los Angeles. During the research, he came across a woman’s body who drowned in the lake adjacent to Kingsley’s mountain home.

Locating the body complicates the investigation, and when Marlowe returns to Los Angeles, he encounters additional difficulties with the police.

Inevitably for a film noir plot, some will be murdered, and their bodies will be found; some will be extortion. Almost everyone will lie to Marlowe, making his job even harder. Corrupt police officers will beat and threaten to incriminate him with various crimes. But Marlowe will continue determined to uncover the truth.

He doesn’t like his client or any other character in the plot, but this is his job, and he will do it to the best of his abilities.

The book includes all the characteristics of the film noir: the lone detective operating according to an internal code system on the border of the criminal to expose corrupt police officers and get to the root of the truth.

The twists and turns in the plot led me to read simultaneously in English and Hebrew so that I would get everything. The permission is a bit delusional, but as a whole, the book and the performance in Audible are lovely.
