מקבץ של 7 סיפורים שהוברחו מקוריאה הצפונית. הסופר, שם בדוי באנדי – ובתרגום גחלילית , עדיין חיי בצפון קוריאה, יש לו משפחה אישה וילדים ובעצם הכתיבה סיכן את חייו.
מעבר לביקורת כנגד המשטר, הסיפורים מתארים מאבק שרידות של האזרחים הצפון קוריאנים כנגד המנגנונים הבירוקרטיים של המשטר הטוטליטרי. כל ניסיון לצאת מהקווים נתקל בתגובה חריפה שיש לה השלכות קשות גם על הדורות הבאים. זהו מנגנון הורשה הפוליטי שכולא את הדורות הבאים ומשפיע על חייהם ("תיעוד של עריקה"). כך נמנעים ניסיונות התנגדות ולכאורה המשטר מעודד מצויינות והצטיינות כי כישלון משמעותו חיים של ביזוי לדורי דורות ולדיראון עולם.
הסיפורים יורדים לעומק שיטות האינדוקטרינציה בחינוך ההמונים, מישטור אופניי החשיבה וההתנהגות ע"י השלטת פחד ("על הבמה", "עיר הבלהות").
הסיפורים נכתבו בסוף שנות ה 80 עד אמצע שנות ה 90 (1995). הם מתרחשים בתקופת שלטונו של קים איל-סונג, סבו של מנהיג צפון קוריאה הנוכחי קים ג'ונג און. סיפורים בדיוניים אך מבוססים על סיפורים מהחיים האמיתיים. איכות הסיפורים אינה אחידה. חלקם אינם כתובים טוב, אבל חלקם מתעלים לרמות מצויינות בעיקר כאשר מעורבים עוצמות רגש.
לטעמי, הסיפור הטוב ביותר בקובץ "כה קרוב, כה רחוק" – הסיפור רווי ברגשות תסכול וחוסר אונים של הגיבור שמתחנן לקבל אישור נסיעה לראות בפעם האחרונה את אמו הגוססת ופעם אחר פעם נענה בשלילה עד שהוא מבצע אקט של מרד בפועל ונוסע לראות אותה בלי אישור.
""נכון, זאת לא אשמתי, זאת לא אשמתי… אני בתוך כלוב, בדיוק כמו הציפורים האלה… לעזאזל!" בחירוק שיניים סובב מיונג־צ'ול את מנעול הכלוב ופתח את הדלת לרווחה. העפרונים צייצו במקהלה, כמו כדי להודות לו, ואז פרשו כנפיים ועפו אל מחוץ לכלוב, כבדי תנועה בתחילה לאחר תקופה ממושכת כל כך בשבי. "בדיוק!" מילמל מיונג־צ'ול. "עופו, עופו. בטח גם אתם נולדתם באיזה מקום, ובטח גם לכם יש אמא שילדה אתכם…""

This is a collection of seven stories smuggled out of North Korea. The writer, who goes by the pseudonym Bundy – and in translation, Firefly- still lives in North Korea; he has a family, wife, and children, and in the act of writing, he risked his life.
Beyond the criticism of the regime, the stories describe the survival struggle of North Korean citizens against the bureaucratic mechanisms of the totalitarian regime. Any attempt to break the lines is met with a harsh response that has severe consequences for future generations. The mechanism of political inheritance imprisons future generations and affects their lives. This way, the regime prevents resistance attempts, and they are avoided. The administration encourages excellence and excellence because failure means a life of humiliation for generations and forever.
The stories go deep into the methods of indoctrination in the education of the masses, from controlling the modes of thinking and behavior by controlling fear ("On the Stage," "City of Nightmares").
The stories were written in the late '80s to the mid-'90s (1995). They occurred during the regime of Kim Il-sung, the grandfather of current North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, and are fictional stories based on real-life stories. The quality of the stories could be more uniform. Some are poorly written, but some rise to excellent levels, especially when emotional intensities are involved.
In my opinion, the best story in the film "So Close, So Far" – the story is filled with feelings of frustration and helplessness of the hero who begs to be allowed to travel to see his dying mother for the last time and is repeatedly answered in the negative until he commits an act of rebellion and travels to see her without permission.
The audio performance in E-vrit is reasonable but is below in some stories.
