בעבר קראתי שני ספרים מאת הסופרת: "קולו של ארצ'ר" ו "מחפשת". גם הספר "בעיקר אותך" עוסק בהזדמנויות שניות.

אלואיז גדלה במשפחה דיספונקציונלית. אמא שלה נעלמה כשהיתה צעירה. היא מותירה אותה עם אביה הביולוגי, שאינו מעוניין לגדל אותה והיא נתונה לרחמי התקפי הזעם והאלימות שלו. בהעדר דמויות הוריות תומכות ומגנות, היא גם נתונה לרחמיהם של חבריו, שרואים בה ילדה נוחה לניצול.

גם אלי עברה התעללות ובעיקר ניכור והזנחה ריגשיים שהובילו אותה למקום של חוסר ביטחון וחוסר אמונה בבני האדם. הרגש שלה כלפי גבריאל יותר סביר, היא חשדנית כלפיו וכלפי המניעים שלו.

במהלך הספר ישנן יותר מידי סצנות של משיכה דחייה והדמויות מצליחות להתקרב סוף סוף ב 78% של הספר. נשמתי לרווחה וחשבתי שאולי רק פעם אחת הסופרת תסיים את הספר בנקודה הזו.

ואז נחשו מה קרה? למעשה בספרים של מיה שרידן קורים שני דברים:

הגיבור/ה צריכה למצוא את עצמם. לעבוד על הפחדים שלו/ה. על הבעיות הפסיכולוגיות שלו/ה. ולכן, נחשו מה הם עושים? הם נפרדים. שוד ושבר, נפרדים מהגיבור/ה שהביא/ה אות/ה עד הלום.

התבנית הזו כל כך מאוסה עליי. היא מופיעה בספרי רומנטיקה בצורות שונות.

במקביל, הדמות הננטשת חווה איזה אקשיין עם חבורת פושעים: קרב יריות, קרב עם ברון סמים, קצת מכות גם לא מזיקות.

באמת התקדמתם כל כך יפה עד 78% למה להרוס את הכל עם מחשבות אקזיסטנציאליות ועם מסתורין?

אז כן אני מאמינה שהעלילה של הספר היתה יכולה להיות מהודקת יותר והיה אפשר לוותר על הטוויסט בפרקים האחרונים.

סה"כ קריאה טובה עד 78 אחוזים, אחר כך העלילה הופכת מופרכת מידי וחפוזה מידי.

I have read two books by the same author in the past: "Archer's Voice" and "Seek. "Most of All You" is another book by the same author that deals with second chances.

Eloise grew up in a dysfunctional family. Her mother disappeared when she was young. She leaves her with her biological father, who is not interested in raising her, and she is at the mercy of his tantrums and violence. In the absence of supportive and protective parental figures, she is also at the mercy of his friends, who see her as a convenient child to exploit.

Eli never forgets it. After graduation, she cuts off contact with her father and forges her path to a reality where she controls her own destiny.

Gabriel was kidnapped from his parents' house when he was nine years old. He was imprisoned in the basement for six years until he finally managed to stab his captor and escape to freedom. Despite being a gifted sculptor, Gabriel struggles to form intimate relationships with others. One day, he goes to a strip club where he meets Crystal and asks for her help in overcoming his fear of intimacy.

Crystal is a beautiful, strong-willed woman who has had experiences with men but has not yet encountered a gentle and timid man like Gabriel. She feels that she cannot teach Gabriel how to be present in a situation but can only teach him how to withdraw. As a result, she declines the offer that Gabriel proposes.

Gabriel is persistent and refuses to give up.

One evening, Crystal, who works as a stripper, is attacked by three men with brutal violence outside the club. As Crystal has no family, Gabriel steps in to help her. Despite the disapproval of Gabriel's brother, Dominic, Crystal moves into Gabriel's house to recover from the attack.

The book alternates between Eli's and Gabriel's point of view.

"Most of All You" is a book about the power of humans to heal even after severe traumas and the optimism that can drive that healing.

I have some reservations about the portrayal of the main characters in the book. Specifically, I feel that the writer depicts Gabriel in a dichotomous way; despite his history of severe abuse, he is portrayed as a hopeful character. Additionally, Gabriel feels an instant connection to Ellie, even though she is initially unkind to him. Despite her behavior, Gabriel persists in his efforts to connect with her.

Ellie experienced emotional abuse, neglect, and alienation, which left her distrustful of humans. She does not trust Gabriel to be different.

In the book, the characters experience moments of both attraction and repulsion. However, it wasn't until 78% of the book that they finally managed to get closer. At this point, I felt relieved and hoped that the author would end the book here. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

Do you know what usually happens in Mia Sheridan's books? Actually, there are usually two things that happen:

The hero must confront their fears and psychological problems in order to discover their true self. In doing so, they must endure a breakup and a robbery, bidding farewell to the person who led them to this point.

This trope is overused in romance novels.

Meanwhile, the abandoned protagonist gets caught up with a group of criminals, engaging in a violent shootout with a drug lord and enduring several brutal beatings.

I am tired of this pattern. This message is intended for author Mia Sheridan.

You've made significant progress up to 78%, so don't let existential thoughts and mysteries hold you back. This is a romance novel, not a telenovela.

Yes, I believe the book's plot could have been tighter and the twist in the last chapters could have been omitted.

Overall, the book was engaging until the last quarter, when the plot lost its realism and rushed to an unsatisfying conclusion.
