​ספר חמוד, למרות ההייפ סביבו, בעיניי יש בו פוטנציאל שלא ממומש.

מיקה מון היא אחת מהמכשפות הבודדות בבריטניה. היא משתייכת לאגודת סתרים של מכשפות שנפגשת אחת לתקופה והיא מנהלת חיים דיי בודדים של נדודים ממקום למקום בכדי שלא יגלו מי היא באמת.

מיקה מון היא יתומה, אין לה משפחה, אין לה חברים והכל אירעי בחיים שלה. המכשפה המאמצת שלה, שהיא גם מנהיגת אגודת המכשפות של בריטניה, מנחילה את העיקרון שמכשפות לא צריכות להתרועע אחת עם השניה כי זה יוצר עומס של קסם ומעמיד אותן בסכנה של חשיפה ומוות. לכן, מיקה גדלה ע”י אומנות שזיכרונן נמחק ברגע שגילו על היכולות שלה כך שהיא גם לא נקשרה לאדם.

עד שהיא מגיעה לאחוזת “שומקום”. בתחילה היא חשבה שמסתלבטים עליה: מודעת דרושים בפייסבוק צדה את עיינה. מאחר וזה בדיוק הזמן לפנות את הדירה והיא בין עבודות, מיקה מגישה מועמדות ולהפתעתה נקראת לראיון עבודה.

בראיון היא מגלה שדרושה מכשפה להכשרת 3 ילדות, שהן מכשפות צעירות. הן גדלות בבית אחוזה שמוקף בקסמי מגן ומגדלים אותן אב בית, ארכיאולוג, אם בית וספרן צעיר אחד שבמיוחד מושך את תשומת ליבה בחמיצות שלו.

באופן מפתיע לדמויות ישנו מספיק עומק, במיוחד לסיפור הרקע של מיקה ושל ג’יימי (הספרן).

אבל, העלילה שיגרתית משהו, עולם הקסמים לא מספיק מפותח לטעמי כך שהספר הוא לא רומן רומנטי ולא פנטזיה.

הוא סוג של היבריד בינוני משני הכיוונים.

It was a pleasant reading that, in my eyes, had Unfulfilled potential.

Mika Moon is one of the few witches in Britain. She belongs to a secret society of witches that meets once in a while, and she leads a rather lonely life of wandering from place to place so that they don’t find out who she is.

Mika Moon is an orphan. She has no family or friends, and everything is incidental. Her adoptive witch, the leader of the Guild of Witches of Great Britain, instills the principle that witches should not socialize with each other because it creates an overload of magic and puts them in danger of exposure and death. Therefore, Mika was raised by nannies whose memory was erased as soon as they learned about her abilities, so she was not attached to a human either.

When she arrived at the “Nowhere” mansion, she initially believed that someone was laughing on her behalf: a job ad on Facebook caught her eye. Since it is precisely the time to vacate the apartment and she is between jobs, Mika applies and, to her surprise, is called for a job interview.

In the interview, she finds out that a witch is needed to train three girls who are young witches. They grow up in a manor house surrounded by protective charms. They are raised by the caretaker of the Maison, an archaeologist, the housekeeper, and one young librarian who mainly attracts her attention with his sourness.

She also discovers that there is some danger to the girls and some secrets they all share.

Surprisingly the characters have enough depth, especially the backstory of Mika and Jamie (the librarian).
But, the plot is routine; the world of magic needs to be developed more for my taste, and the author of that book did not decide if it was a romantic novel or a fantasy.

So the result is a medium hybrid in both directions.
