​אני מאוד אוהבת ספרי פנטזיה, וכשקראתי את התקציר של הספר באמזון וגם את הביקורות חשבתי שיש לו פוטנציאל מצויין כספר פנטזיה רומנטית. ואכן כשהתחלתי לקרוא היו לו את כל המאפיינים של ספר פנטזיה חביב – העלילה בעצימות נמוכה, מתארת אירועי חיים ומשלבת בתוכה מתח רומנטי בין הדמויות

אבל ככל שהתקדמתי (קראתי קצת יותר ממחצית הספר) הפוטנציאל דעך ונותרתי עם שיממון שברגע שעזבתי אותו גם לא רציתי לחזור אליו.

פינלי אשואן מצטרף כטבח המלכותי הראשי לארמון מלכות דקסטריה. עברו לוטה בערפל ולאף אחד אין מושג מהיכן הוא הגיע. הם יודעים שהוא טבח בחסד ושהוא נזקק לצוות קטן ביותר בכדי להכין את ארוחות המלכים.

למרות שפינלי מאוד רוצה לשמור על פרטיותו ועל זהותו, הם מתגלים בעל כורחו כאשר הוא נאלץ לספר למלך דקסטריה שהוא כשף בית.

בתחילה מאוד נהנתי מהאזנה ומהעלילה ובכלל מדמותו של פינלי אשואן. אבל ככל שהספר התקדם, התככים והמזימות התרבו לקווי עלילה מרובים שנגררים ולא נסגרים, ועל כל זה חיי האהבה של פינלי קיבלו ניעור מהתרדמת שהם היו מצויים בה וגם הם התקדמו בקצב של צב, כך התחלתי לאבד את הסבלנות. במיוחד איבדתי את הסבלנות בפרקים שלא עוסקים בעלילה המרכזית (כמו פרק שצוחק על שמו של אחד האצילים).

במהלך העלילה, הסופרת מנסה לשלב נושאים אקטואליים להיום באוירה של ימי הביניים. הניסיון הזה נכשל נחרצות.

גם הרומן בין פינלי לאניקה (אשת אציל, לוחמת עשירה ומרגלת) לא מציל את העלילה, כי מסתבר שאניקה היא סוג של מרגלת שהולכת ומסתבכת גם במעלליה ובנוסף היחסים בין אניקה לפינלי נתנו הרגשה של ילדים בגיל 16, ממש לא בשלים למערכת יחסים.

התחושה הכללית שנדרשת כאן עריכה מאסיבית, הידוק העלילה וטיפול בקצב של ההתקדמות שלה.

The House Witch #1

I have a great fondness for fantasy books. After reading the book summary on Amazon and going through the reviews, I felt that this book held great potential as a romantic fantasy novel. I was not disappointed when I began reading it, as it possessed all the traits of an enchanting fantasy book. It has a low-intensity plot that revolves around life events and features romantic tension between the characters.

As I progressed through the book, the potential I initially saw faded away. wasteland, which I didn’t want to revisit once I left it, was the only thing left.

Finley Ashwan has been hired as the new head royal cook for the Royal Palace of Dextria. His past is Lotte in the fog and nobody knows where he came from. However, he is known for his exceptional skills in the kitchen and is capable of preparing meals fit for kings with a very small staff.

Although Finley is very keen to maintain his privacy and identity, they reluctantly find out when he is forced to tell the King of Dextria that he is a house wizard.

I initially enjoyed listening to the book, especially the plot and Finley Eshouen’s character. However, as the plot progressed, multiple storylines were introduced, making the story more complex and dragging on unnecessarily without resolution. Finley’s love life also progressed slowly, which further tested my patience. I became particularly frustrated with the episodes that didn’t contribute to the main plot, such as one that mocked the name of a noble character.

During the plot, the author attempts to combine contemporary issues with a medieval atmosphere but fails.

The romantic subplot between Finley and Anika, a noblewoman who is also a wealthy warrior and spy, fails to elevate the overall plot. Anika’s frequent entanglements due to her espionage activities, coupled with the immature and childish nature of the relationship between her and Finley, make it hard to believe in their connection.

The plot needs to be tightened and the pacing handled better.
