הספרים של גיום מוסו שומרים לרוב על תבנית קבועה, וזה ניכר במיוחד ב־כי אני אוהב אותך. גם כאן, כמו ב־דירה בפריז ו־העלמה והלילה, מופיע הגיבור השבור, סוד מן העבר, טוויסטים רגשיים וחיפוש אחר גאולה דרך כאב. התוצאה מוכרת, מהירה לקריאה ולעיתים מצליחה לגעת, אך לא תמיד משכנעת.
מרק, פסיכולוג ילדים אמריקאי שאיבד את בתו, מסתובב בשולי החיים והחברה. הוא עזב את עבודתו, את נישואיו ובעיקר את עצמו. חמש שנים לאחר היעלמותה של בתו, היא מופיעה פתאום, בלי הסבר, בקניון בניו יורק. איך הגיעה לשם, איפה הייתה ומה קרה לה? זהו הציר שמניע את העלילה, ומכאן נפתח מסע נפשי ופיזי בעקבות האובדן, ההדחקה והכאב.

עם זאת, גם כאן חוזרים הקשיים המוכרים מספריו האחרים. הטוויסטים לעיתים צפויים מדי או דרמטיים בלי הצדקה מספקת. מוסו בונה עלילות שעובדות היטב בקולנוע, אך על הנייר הן מרגישות מאולצות. יש לו נטייה להעמיס טראומות, להפריז בגילויים דרמטיים ולסגור הכול מהר מדי בפרק האחרון. התחושה היא של נוסחה שעובדת, אך אינה מתפתחת.
כי אני אוהב אותך הוא רומן קצר, רגשי ומתאים לקריאה מהירה. הוא לא מחדש, לא מזעזע, אך כן מצליח להנכיח תחושות של אובדן ותקווה. לקוראים שכבר מכירים את הסגנון של מוסו, הספר ירגיש כמו חזרה לנוסחה בטוחה: חצי רגש, חצי מתח וטון של סרט דרמה בערוץ צרפתי. לא חובה, אך עשוי לספק רגעים של נחמה לקוראים שמחפשים דרמה מהירה עם לב.

Because I Love You by Guillaume Musso follows the familiar formula readers have come to expect from the author. As in The Paris Apartment and The Reunion, we find a broken protagonist, a haunting secret from the past, emotional twists, and a search for redemption through pain. The result is a story that’s quick to read, occasionally moving, but not always convincing.
Marc, an American child psychologist who lost his daughter, has drifted to the margins of life. He has left behind his job, his marriage, and essentially himself. Five years after his daughter's disappearance, she suddenly reappears in a New York mall, without explanation. How did she get there? Where has she been? What happened to her? These questions drive the plot, launching a psychological and emotional journey through grief, repression, and loss.
Musso is skilled at creating emotional suspense. He uses short chapters, charged characters, and shifting perspectives to maintain pace. Some parts are genuinely moving. The characters feel emotionally authentic, even when the plot veers into less believable territory. He has a talent for conveying pain in resonant yet straightforward language.
That said, the same flaws seen in his other works resurface here. The twists can feel either too predictable or needlessly dramatic. Musso writes plots that may translate well to film but often feel forced on the page. He tends to pile on trauma, overplay emotional revelations, and resolve everything too neatly in the final chapter. It’s a formula that works, but doesn’t evolve.
Because I Love You is a short, emotional novel, suitable for a quick read. It doesn’t break new ground, but it does manage to evoke themes of loss and hope. For readers familiar with Musso’s style, it will feel like a return to a well-worn formula: part emotion, part suspense, and the tone of a French TV drama. Not essential, but not without its moments.
