הספר הראשון בסידרת מחווה לספרי שרלוק הולמס. הסידרה כוללת נכון להיום (2024) אבעה ספרי בלש שבמרכזם הנינים של שרלוק הולמס וג’ון ווטסון. שרלוט הולמס היא נינתו של שרלוק הולמס וג’יימי הוא הנין של ג’ון ווטסון. שניהם עזבו את אנגליה בכדי ללמוד בקולג’ בקונטיקט ארה”ב. הסידרה עוקבת אחרי מעלליהם של ג’יימי ושרלוט שמתחילים כיריבים והופכים, בדומה לאבותיהם, לצמד בלשים. 

שנים לאחר שאבות אבותיהם חלפו מהעולם, שרלוט הולמס וג’יימי ווטסון נפגשים בקולג’ שרינגפורד. ג’יימי, עובר לקולג’ שקרוב לביתו של אביו המתנכר ומשפחתו החדשה. שרלוט, נאלצה לעזוב את בריטניה אחרי שערוריה. דרכיהם מצטלבות כאשר מתרחש בקמפוס רצח של תלמיד שקשור לשניהם.

בתחילה מערכת היחסים בינהם מתוחה, אבל כאשר הם הופכים מעורבים בפשעים שהם חיקוי של הפשעים שחקרו אבות אבותיהם, ונראה שמישהו מנסה להפליל אותם, הם נדרשים לשתף פעולה. נראה שהפושע.ים השתמשו בסצנות מהסיפורים הישנים שפורסמו.

הספר כולל מספר טוויסטים מעניינים, כולל האפיונים מודרניים של הדמויות. שרלוט מכורה לאוקסי ובמהלך הספר היא מתמודדת עם ההתמכרות הזו ועם תופעות הלוואי שלה. ג’יימי לא פגש את אביו המתנכר שנים. למעשה מאז שאביו עבר לארה”ב והקים משפחה חדשה.

The series, a unique tribute to the Sherlock Holmes books, is set in a different backdrop. It features four detective books that revolve around the great-grandsons of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. Charlotte Holmes, the great-granddaughter of Sherlock Holmes, and Jamie, John Watson’s great-great-grandson, leave England to attend college in Connecticut, USA. The series chronicles their journey from rivals to a pair of detectives, much like their fathers.

Years after their ancestors passed, Charlotte Holmes and Jamie Watson met at Shringford College. Jamie moves to a college close to the home of his estranged father and his new family. Charlotte had to leave Britain after a scandal. Their paths cross when a murder of a student takes place on campus that is related to both of them.

At first, their relationship is strained, but when they become involved in crimes that mimic the crimes their ancestors investigated, and it seems that someone is trying to frame them, they are forced to cooperate. The criminals seem to have used scenes from old published stories.

The book includes several interesting twists, including the modern characterizations of the characters. Charlotte’s struggle with addiction and Jamie’s unresolved issues with his father add a layer of complexity to the characters, making them more relatable and human.

The first part of the book, which focuses on Charlotte and Jamie’s budding relationship, is more engaging than the second part, which delves into solving the crimes. However, despite this, the series holds promise. The unique blend of modern issues with classic detective work is a refreshing take, and I am hopeful and eager to see how it unfolds in the next books.
