הספר הראשון של הסופרת קיילה אולסון שאני קוראת. בעיקר נמשכתי לקרוא אותו בגלל הכריכה היפיפיה שלו שקרצה לי משלל ספרי הקינדל שאמזון הציע לי.

אליקס, עיתונאית בידור לשעבר, יוצאת לכפר נופש באזור מושלג בכדי שתוכל לסיים את ספר הזיכרונות של סבסטיאן. אליקס היא סופרת צללים, שנאבקת למחייתה ועל פרנסתה. החיים בניו יורק מאוד יקרים וזו ההזדמנות שלה לפרוץ ולהגשים את החלום שלה.

סבסטיאן הוא פליט מלהקת בנים ששמה True North. כשהלהקה היתה פעילה, היו הרבה עיניינים בין חברי הלהקה ובעיקר, מתחים בין שני הכוכבים הבולטים שלה : סבסטיאן גרין וג’ט בקט.

אבל ג’ט בקט נעלם לפני יותר מעשור ועיקבותיו אבדו והתעלומה רודפת את כל חברי הלהקה. סבסטיאן שהמשיך בקריירה כסולן, מאוד רוצה לספר לעולם מה קרה שם באותו הלילה לפני שג’ט נעלם וגרם ללהקה שלהם להתפרק.

מעבר לעובדה שהטוויסט בסיפור היה צפוי, הדמות של סבסטיאן ממש הרגיזה אותי וכך גם אחותה של אליקס. על אלה פיצתה מערכת היחסים של אליקס עם טיילור.

אין סצנות לוהטות בספר, אבל יש בו אבחנות שנוגעות לחיים בעולם הבידור והמחיר שנאלצים לשלם אנשים מפורסמים. בין לבין הסופרת מנסה לשלב (בטכניקה של הסופרת טיילור ג’נקינס ריד) קטעים כביכול אוטנטיים מהאינסטגרם ומהחדשות הבידור. השילוב לא כל כך מוצלח כמו בספרים של טיילור ג’נקינס ריד.

סה”כ זו קריאה נעימה שאומנם לא סיפקה לי חוויה של חמישה כוכבים, אבל היא סיפקה כמה שעות של קריאה משחררת ממחשבות ומועקות.

This is the first book I’m reading by author Kayla Olson. I was mainly drawn to it because of its beautiful cover, which caught my eye among the many Kindle books suggested on Amazon.

Alix, a former entertainment journalist, travels to a resort in a snowy region to complete Sebastian’s memoir. As a ghostwriter, Alix struggles to make ends meet. Living in New York is quite costly; this is her chance to achieve her dreams.

Sebastian is a refugee from a boy band named True North. During the band’s active years, there were numerous issues among the members, especially tensions between its two leading stars, Sebastian Green and Jet Beckett.

But Jet Beckett vanished more than a decade ago without a trace, and the mystery haunts all the band members. Sebastian, who pursued a career as a solo artist, desperately wants to share with the world what happened that night before Jet disappeared and led to their band’s breakup.

When she arrives at the resort, Alix doesn’t expect to find friends or love. Her last relationship, two years ago, was a colossal disaster. She seeks peace and hopes to finish her memoir if Sebastian is kind enough to take a moment from life’s pleasures to answer her questions.

She spends her days with her cat and listens to audio clips Sebastian sent her until she meets Tyler.

Tyler, a ski instructor and Alix’s neighbor, is kind and generous. He volunteers to teach Alix how to ski. Since Alix hasn’t skied in two years, she accepts Tyler’s invitation and lets him train her.

You can envision how the story unfolds between Alix and Tyler.

The plot of the book alternates between the boy band’s story, Alix’s personal journey, and the evolving relationship between her and Tyler.

The boy band’s story offers suspense and mystery, while Alix’s journey mainly conveys frustration and anger toward her family. Additionally, the evolving relationship between her and Tyler brings moments of enjoyment.

Beyond the fact that the story’s twist was predictable, Sebastian’s character and Alix’s sister really annoyed me. However, Alix’s relationship with Tyler compensated for this.

The book contains no steamy scenes but offers insightful observations about life in the entertainment industry and the sacrifices that famous people must make. The author attempts to include supposedly authentic excerpts from Instagram and entertainment news, using a technique similar to that of Taylor Jenkins Reid. However, this integration is not as successful as it is in Reid’s books.

Overall, it’s an enjoyable read. While it didn’t give me a five-star experience, it offered several hours of reading that allowed me to escape my thoughts and worries.
