​חייה של סיסיליה פיצפטריק מתנהלים בחוסר מודעות מושלמת: היא נשואה לגבר המוצלח ביותר בסביבה, יש לה שתי בנות מלאכיות קטנות ועסק לממכר טאפוור משגשג.

במקביל, ביקום אחר, החיים מזמנים לטס, אשת מכירות ופירסומאית מצטיינת, הפתעות משלה. בשיחה סתמית, טס מגלה שבעלה ובת דודתה התאהבו. הם אומנם אציליים וטהורים ומרגיעים אותה שדבר לא קרה, אבל כשוויליאם מציע ששלושתם יחיו יחד תחת קורת גג אחת, טס מבינה שהיא צריכה להגיע להחלטה מהירה. 

היא אוספת את שברי חייה ובו ברגע מחליטה לחזור לבית אימה בסידני ולקחת איתה את הילד בכדי לפנות לבעלה ולבת דודתה את הדרך.

הדמות שלישית בספר היא רייצ'ל. רייצ'ל בגיל השלישי. היא חוותה שתי טרגדיות במהלך חייה, אבל אחת מהן עיצבה את גורלה ותעצב את גורלן של יתר הדמויות בספר.

בנה של רייצ'ל וכלתה מודיעים לה שבעקבות הצעת עבודה שקיבלה הכלה, הם החליטו להגר לניו יורק יחד עם הנכד שהוא מאור עינייה וחביב ליבה של רייצ'ל. היא מקבלת את הבשורה קשה מה שמערער את הלך רוחה.

קווי חייהן של כל הדמויות יצטלבו, ובמשך שבוע גורלי, חייהן ישתנו לנצח.

אני אוהבת את הכתיבה של ליאן מוריארטי. היא עוסקת בניפוץ השיכבה העליונה המכסה על חייהם הבלתי מושלמים בעליל של המעמד הבורגני ושל נשות הפרברים. היא בעיקר עוסקת בזוגיות ומשפחה, בסדקים שבזוגיות ובמרקם החברתי היחודי לפרברים הבורגניים על כל העמדות הפנים והצביעות שמתחזקים את הבעירה השקטה שמבעבעת מתחת לפני השטח.

אומנם יש לה נוסחא שדיי חוזרת על עצמה ובספר הזה היה קל יחסית לגלות את הסוד של הבעל, אבל בזכות הנוסחא הזו הספרים שלה מאוד מוצלחים.

מאחר ויש לי גם את המהדורה העברית, מידי פעם קראתי גם בה והתרגום מצויין.

Rachel's son and daughter-in-law have informed her that they will be moving to New York after receiving a job offer. They will be taking Rachel's beloved grandson with them. Rachel is finding this news challenging to accept, affecting her mood.

All the characters' paths will intersect, and their lives will be altered permanently during one critical week.

I thoroughly enjoy reading Leanne Moriarty's books. Her writing exposes the flaws and imperfections of the wealthy and suburban lifestyles. She delves into the intricacies of relationships and family dynamics, highlighting the underlying tensions and hypocrisies within the bourgeois social fabric. It's a fascinating read that keeps you hooked until the very end.

The author has a formula that she employs frequently in her writing. Despite the relative ease with which one can uncover the husband's secret in this book, her works continue to be widely popular due to this formula.
