הספר מלא ברגעים מצחיקים ומשעשעים. הוא ממזג בין שלושה טרופים בהצלחה בלי שאף אחד מהם ישתלט על העלילה ( שונאים לאוהבים, אב יחידני, והחבר של האח שלי).

מערכת היחסים בין וואייט לאלי מחממת את הלב. היא אומנם מבוססת על התנצחויות, על תחרותיות (לא בריאה) ועל רצון של כל אחד מהצדדים לשמור על מרחק, אבל ככל שהעלילה מתקדמת, הם מתחממים אחד כלפי השניה והיחסים בינהם הופכים לאינטימיים. לשניהם יש סיבות מוצקות לא לרצות במערכת היחסים הזו, והם צריכים להתגבר על הפחדים שלהם. בעקביות ונחישות החיזור של וואייט הופך לברור יותר ומאפשר לאלי להפתח אליו.

אהבתי את הספר, את חוש ההומור של הסופרת וגם כשהיו חלקים שבעיניי היו צפויים, הכימיה בין הדמויות וחוש ההומור חיפו על כך.

Flirting with the Frenemy is the first book I’ve read by Pippa Grant. It’s a romantic comedy that blends sharp humor, engaging dialogue, and electrifying chemistry between the characters.

Ellie Ryder was sure that her life was progressing exactly as planned—she had a stable career, a relationship with a man she had chosen to spend her life with, and a promising future. But everything shatters on Christmas Eve when her boyfriend abandons her, leaving her with a broken heart and wounded pride. Unable to cope with the aftermath, she decides to go to her parents’ house, only to run into Wyatt Morgan—her brother’s best friend and the person who had been her most significant rival for years.

Wyatt Morgan is Ellie’s worst nightmare. Her nemesis. She has oscillated between an undeniable attraction to Wyatt and a burning hatred for him throughout her life. He tormented her, competed against her, and always managed to leave her breathless. Their unexpected encounter spirals out of control, and when Ellie leaves the house, she gets into a severe car accident. After that, the two don’t speak.

This silence lasts for six months until fate brings them together again in Shipwreck, Virginia, where Ellie’s best friend is about to get married. What was supposed to be a weekend of easing back into normalcy turns into complete chaos when Ellie realizes not only that she is sharing a house with Wyatt and his young son, Tucker, but also that her ex—the one who dumped her—is attending the wedding as well.

Wyatt, now divorced, arrived in town for a special week with his son at the Pirate Festival—a rare opportunity to spend time with him before being stationed at a military base 500 kilometers away. He didn’t expect to cross paths with the whirlwind that is Ellie once again.

Their reunion is marked by awkwardness, resentment, and the same competitive spark that has always existed between them. However, after their last encounter, an unspoken tension lingers—something they are both eager to ignore. When circumstances compel Ellie to find a fake boyfriend to confront her ex at the wedding, Wyatt steps up to fill that role.

The book is filled with hilarious and enjoyable moments. It effectively combines three beloved romance tropes without allowing any of them to overshadow the narrative (enemies-to-lovers, single dad, and my brother’s best friend).

The relationship between Wyatt and Ellie is heartwarming. Although it begins with bickering, unhealthy competition, and a mutual desire to maintain distance from each other, the story shows how they gradually soften toward one another, leading to a deeper connection. Both characters have valid reasons for avoiding a relationship and must confront their fears. Through patience and persistence, Wyatt’s efforts to pursue Ellie become more evident, ultimately allowing her to open up to him.

I enjoyed this book. The humor, the author’s clever writing style, and the engaging banter made reading a pleasure. Even though the plot felt a bit predictable at times, the chemistry between the characters and the humor compensated for it.
