אחרי שנהנתי מהספר השני בסידרת love line, החלטתי לחזור ולקרוא את הספר הראשון. הספרים מקוטלגים בז’אנר הרומנטי, לא אירוטי, והביצועים באודיובל הם מהטובים שיש.

ורה הופמן, אמורה להציג את העסק החדש שלה, Date in a Box, בכנס ספקים שיערך בסוף שבוע הבא. הבעיה היחידה היא שאתר האינטרנט שעימו היא אמורה להשיק את העסק, לא עובד. היא מתקשרת לשירות הלקוחות של “קאירו” ולאחר המתנה ארוכה, עונה לה קאל (עם C) טכנאי שירות שאמור לסייע לה לפתור את הבעיות בעצוב האתר.

אבל במשך שלוש שעות קאל לא מצליח לפתור את הבעיה והשיחה בין קאל לורה מתארכת ובסופה, קאל מבטיח לורה שהוא יתקן את הבעיה בעיצוב האתר עד כנס הספקים.

במהלך השבוע קאל וורה משוחחים בטלפון ומסתמסים. מה שהיתה אמורה להיות שיחת שירות מקצועית וחד פעמית, הופכת לקשר ידידותי ואז הופכת לקשר אינטימי.

במהלך השיחות של קאל וורה הקורא לומד על הדמויות ועל מערכות היחסים שלהן עם הסביבה הקרובה (הורים/ אחים) וזה מוסיף רובד לסיפור:

לדוגמא העובדה שוורה לא היתה בזוגיות תקופה ארוכה ושאליוט, אחיה, מודע למצב היחסים האישי שלה (כלומר שלא היו לה יחסים זוגיים תקופה ארוכה) מנסה לשכנע אותה לצאת עם חבר שלו פרד. ורה משתפת את קאל בספקות שלה ביחס לפרד וביחס לזוגיות ולמרות שהיא נדלקת על קאל, היא כמעט מתפתה להצעה של אליוט.

מצד שני, קאל שהוא חנון וביישן שמתקשה עם אנשים ובמיוחד עם נשים, מספר לה על הפרידה של הוריו ועל כך שמגיל צעיר הוא נאלץ לחיות על הקו שבין פינלנד וארה”ב וזה לבסוף יצר אצלו תיסכולים רבים וקושי.

וגם יש טוויסט קטן ומשעשע ביחס לדמות של קאל.

הסיפור מתוק וגם הדמויות. העלילה נעה בין הדמויות של קאל לורה בימי השבוע החולפים לקראת כנס הספקים הגורלי.

After enjoying the second book in the Love Line series, I decided to go back and read the first book. The books are cataloged in the romantic genre, not erotic, and the performances in Audible are among the best.

Vera Hoffman is scheduled to present her new business, Date in a Box, at a vendor conference next weekend. The only problem is that the website with which she is supposed to launch the company does not work. She calls Cairo’s customer service, and after a long wait, Cal, the service technician, answers her call and is supposed to help her solve the website problems.

But Cal needs to solve the problem for three hours, and the conversation between Cal and Vera drags on. Ultimately, Cal promises Vera that he will fix the problem with the website design until the suppliers’ conference.

Cal and Vera talk on the phone during the week. What was supposed to be a one-time professional service call turned into a friendly and intimate relationship.

During Cal and Vera’s conversations, the reader learns about the characters and their relationships with the immediate environment (parents/siblings), and this adds a layer to the story:

For example, Vera has not been in a relationship for a long time, and Eliot, her brother, is aware of her personal relationship status (meaning she has not had a relationship for a long time) and tries to convince her to go out with his friend Fred. Vera shares with Cal her doubts about Fred and the relationship, and even though she has a crush on Cal, she is almost seduced by Elliott’s offer.

On the other hand, Cal, who is a nerd and shy and has difficulty with people, especially women, shares his struggles with Vera. He tells her about his parents’ separation and how, from a young age, he was forced to live on the border between Finland and the USA. Despite these challenges, he is successful.

There is also a slight and amusing twist about Cal’s character, which adds an intriguing element to the story.

The story is sweet, and so are the characters. The plot moves between the characters of Cal Laura in the days of the passing week leading up to the fateful supplier conference.
