עם זאת, קיימות נקודות חולשה. הקריינות, המתבצעת על ידי הסופר, אינה עומדת בסטנדרט מקצועי. לעיתים הקצב משתבש, והעברת התכנים המורכבים לוקה בחוסר שטף. קריינות מקצועית הייתה מעניקה לספר דיוק ובהירות שהיו מחזקים את השפעתו.
נוסף על כך, בחלק מהפרקים נדמה שניצן מחריף את התמונה. במקום להציע תובנות מתונות או גישות פרגמטיות, הוא נוטה למסגר את היחסים בין סין לארצות הברית כעימות קיצוני, כמעט כמו מלחמה קרה מחודשת. יש בכך משהו אפקטיבי, אך גם צורך להיזהר מהגזמה.
למרות זאת, אי אפשר להתעלם מחשיבותו של הספר במיוחד לקורא הישראלי. סין מהווה שחקן הולך וגדל בזירה הכלכלית המקומית. השקעות בתשתיות, שיתופי פעולה מדעיים, נוכחות בתעשיות מפתח. הסינים רואים בישראל ובישראלים עם חכם ובעל פוטנציאל, והם מביעים הערכה כלפי יהודים באופן מובהק. מדינת ישראל נתפסת כחממה טכנולוגית, ולכן סין שואפת להעמיק את קשריה עם הקהילה המדעית והעסקית כאן.
בשורה התחתונה, מלחמת 100 השנים הבאות הוא ספר חשוב, חכם ומעורר מחשבה. הוא מציע מבט מרתק על עיצובו מחדש של העולם הכלכלי, ועל המשמעויות הישירות לכך לישראל. עם זאת, מומלץ לקרוא אותו בעין ביקורתית, ולהיות מודעים לכך שחלק מהמסקנות נוטות להחריף את גוני המציאות.

The Next 100 Years of War by Eran Nitzan examines the central shift in the global arena: the rise of China as an economic and political superpower, challenging the United States' dominance since World War II. The book presents a broad and timely overview, offering a precise analysis of geopolitical dilemmas, trade dynamics, technological competition, and strategic investment.
The book’s strengths are evident. Nitzan’s analysis is rich in contemporary examples, with insightful commentary on how China’s centralized political system influences large corporations and affects the general population's economic welfare. He skillfully outlines China’s rapid economic development over the last two decades, contrasting the country’s centralized model with the Western capitalist system.
Nitzan explains how China is building a “resilience network” to reassert its historical role at the global center. In contrast, the United States is portrayed as responding with defensive strategies aimed at preserving its international influence. The sections focusing on China’s approach to Israel are particularly compelling, serving as a wake-up call for practical diplomacy, not just for Israel, but for any nation seeking to balance between these competing forces.
However, the book has a few shortcomings. The audiobook narration, performed by the author himself, falls short of professional standards. At times, the pacing falters, and complex points are conveyed with less clarity than they deserve. An experienced narrator could have elevated the delivery and impact of the content.
Moreover, in some chapters, Nitzan seems to exaggerate the tone of conflict. Instead of focusing on pragmatic strategies or nuanced understanding, he tends to frame the China–US dynamic as an extreme confrontation, resembling a cold war on the brink of explosion. This framing can feel effective but occasionally overblown.
Still, the importance of this book for Israeli readers is undeniable. China is increasingly involved in Israel’s economy through infrastructure, technology, and strategic industries. Chinese policymakers often view Israel as an innovative and intelligent partner, with a deep respect for Jewish history and science. As a result, China is eager to strengthen its ties with Israeli businesses and institutions.
Bottom line: The Next 100 Years of War is a relevant, intelligent, and provocative book. It sheds light on the shifting balance of power and highlights the strategic decisions countries like Israel must confront. Yet, given the at-times exaggerated tone, it’s worth approaching the book with thoughtful skepticism and attention to nuance.
