אילן בן-נתן בן ה- 48, נישא לפני שנתיים לאישתו, נעמי הצעירה ממנו ב- 23 שנים. הוא עדין נמצא בתחושת אושר ואהבה אינסופית כשהוא מגלה שנעמי בוגדת בו. אילן למרות גילו נאה ומחוזר. הוא פרופסור מוערך לאסטרופיזיקה ולמרות כל זאת, הבגידה פוגעת בציפור נפשו, הוא מיד שוקע ברגשי נחיתות קשים ובאחת נשאב לתוך האובססיה והמעקב אחר אישתו ההוללת. המרדף והאובססיה מובילים אותו לנקוט צעד, שממנו לא תהיה חזרה וחייהם של הגיבורים ישתנו.

הדמות של נעמי מאוסה. ילדה קטנה מפונקת, שקועה בעצמה וכפויית טובה.
הדמות של אילן, מיוסרת, אובססיבית, נוגעת ללב. יחד עם זאת, לא סבלתי את הרפיסות שהוא מגלה מול נעמי ומול שגיונותיה ובמיוחד לא אהבתי את הדרך שבה הוא מתמודד עם הבוגדנות שלה. ההתנהגות שלו היא על גבול הפאטיות ובאמת מה יש לצפות מגבר מזדקן שנשוי לפרגית שמקרננת אותו תחת אפו או למעשה מול עיניו במקרים מסויימים?

הכתיבה של עדנה מזי"א קולחת, מלבבת. היא מכניסה את הקורא לנבכי התלבטויותיו של אילן וככל שהספר מתקדם, הוא הופך אפל, מטריד עד הסיום המפתיע.

An excellent, gripping psychological thriller with amusing ironic touches.

Ilan Ben-Natan, forty-eight, married his wife Naomi two years ago. She is twenty-three years younger than he is. He is still living in a state of near-complete happiness and love when he discovers Naomi is cheating on him. Despite his age, Ilan is attractive and receives plenty of attention. He is a respected astrophysics professor, yet the betrayal strikes directly at his sense of self. Almost immediately, he sinks into severe insecurity and becomes consumed by obsession and surveillance of his wife. That pursuit eventually drives him to take a step from which there is no return, and the lives of everyone involved begin to change.

Edna Mazya characterizes the figures extremely well.

Naomi is thoroughly unlikeable. She is spoiled, self-absorbed, and ungrateful.

Ilan is tormented, obsessive, and often touching. At the same time, I could not stand the weakness he shows in front of Naomi and her whims, and I especially disliked the way he chooses to deal with her infidelity. His behavior borders on pathetic. Then again, what exactly can one expect from an aging man married to a much younger woman who is cheating on him almost directly under his nose?

Mazya’s writing is fluid and engaging. She draws the reader deep into Ilan’s thoughts and indecision, and as the novel progresses, it becomes darker and increasingly disturbing, all the way to its surprising ending.
