המסתורין באחוזת אנדרבי/ אגתה כריסטי

לאחר מות ריצרד אברנתי מתכנסים שאריו באחוזת אנדרבי לקריאת הצוואה. מסתבר כי ריצרד חילק את הונו בין שני אחיו ושלושת אחיניו כי לא מצא מבינהם את האחד שיוכל לשלוט באימפריה.

אבל את השימחה של כל היורשים מפריעה הערה של קורה לאנסקוונט, האחות האבודה שבמשך שנים לא היו איתה בקשר. ויום למחרת היא נרצחת. אז נקרא פוארו לפענח את המיסתורין של מותו החטוף של ריצרד אברנתי ושל קורה לאנסקוונט.

כרגיל מתח משובח, מה שהפריע לי זה התרגום הארכאי כפי שכבר כתבתי כאן. אבל בשלב מסוים כבר לא שמתי לנושא לב אולי בגלל העלילה שהיא קולחת ומרתקת כהרגלה של אגתה

מומלץ בחום רק בשביל לראות את השימושים המופלאים שעושה המתרגמת עם המילה מסתמא ….

After the Funeral / Agatha Christie

After the death of Richard Abernethie, his relatives gather at Enderby Hall for the reading of the will. It turns out that Richard divided his fortune among his two brothers and three nephews because he could not find among them the one person he believed capable of taking control of his empire.

But the heirs’ happiness is disturbed by a remark made by Cora Lansquenet, the long-lost sister with whom the family had been out of touch for years. The following day, she is murdered. Poirot is then called in to unravel the mystery surrounding Richard Abernethie’s sudden death and the murder of Cora Lansquenet.

As usual, this is an excellent mystery. What bothered me was the archaic Hebrew translation, as I've written elsewhere. At some point, however, I stopped noticing it, probably because the plot is as fluid and compelling as Agatha Christie usually is.

Highly recommended, if only to witness the translator’s remarkable enthusiasm for the Hebrew word mistama.
