Major Love / Kate Stewart
A nice story, although a little irritating at times, about Andy Pracht and April Turner.
Andy, Rafe's former baseball teammate and close friend, is going through a crisis after Kristina, the woman he was in love with, leaves Charleston. On the night it happens, Alice and Rafe are celebrating their engagement, and that is where he meets April, Alice's friend.
April is beautiful and works as an emergency dispatcher. She is one of four sisters and grew up with her father, her sisters and her grandmother. For fifteen years she was with Tyler, until she finally realized that the relationship was no longer right for her.
A very drunk Andy pours his heart out to April, insults her, embarrasses himself spectacularly, and somehow makes her fall for him at the exact moment when, without realizing it and through the haze of alcohol, he places his heart in her hands.
The next day Andy remembers nothing. April remembers everything.
Andy and April's relationship is strange. He does not want anything serious and does everything he can to avoid her, yet somehow he always ends up pulled back into her orbit. She understands that she will need patience, but sometimes she goes about things in such a crooked way that it is difficult to understand how they manage to end up together at all.
At some point I simply got tired of the whole push-and-pull game, mostly from Andy but also from April, especially when Andy behaves like a complete idiot.
There are some nice moments in the book, though, and overall it is pleasant enough, so I gave it three stars. It definitely does not reach the level of Alice and Rafe's book, and although they make appearances here, their presence does not do much to improve the plot.
