Harry Clarke מאגד שני מונולוגים דרמטיים מאת דייוויד קייל, שכל אחד מהם בנוי סביב דמות שמספרת את חייה בקול מובחן, מצחיק ומעט מסוכן. הראשון עוסק בזהות מומצאת שמשתלטת על האדם שיצר אותה. השני מציע דמות חמה, פגיעה ומשעשעת יותר. הביצוע מצוין בשניהם, גם אם ההקדמה לסיפור השני מסבירה יותר מדי ומחלישה מעט את האפקט.
שני סיפורים קצרים נפלאים. הביצוע נהדר מבחינתי 5 כוכבים, הסיפור השני קצת הוריד לי בגלל ההתחלה שבה הסופר מסביר כיצד הגיע לסיפור והורס את האפקט שלו.
הרי קלארק הוא דמות בדיונית של ילד אמריקאי בן 9 שאביו מתעמר בו בשל העובדה שהוא מדבר במבטא בריטי. הדמות של הרי קלארק, קורמת עור וגידים
ובעיקר משעשעת והזויה משתלטת על חייו של המספר שבתחילה, מסיבות לא ברורות מעמיד פנים שהוא הרי קלארק אבל מאוחר יותר לא מצליח להשתחרר מהדמות גם כשהוא מאוד רוצה. היא מקבלת חיים משלה ומעמידה את הדמות הראשית במצבים הזויים ומסוכנים. וזה עד הסוף המפתיע והמופרע של הסיפור.

שני מונולוגים דרמטיים מאת דייוויד קייל. הראשון עוסק בגבר שממציא לעצמו זהות בשם הארי קלארק ומאבד עליה שליטה. השני עוקב אחר ליליאן, דמות חמה, משעשעת ופגיעה יותר.
למאזינים שאוהבים דרמה קולית, מונולוגים, הומור שחור, דמויות אקסצנטריות וסיפורים קצרים עם סיום מפתיע.
הביצוע הקולי, הקולות המובחנים של הדמויות והאופן שבו כל סיפור בונה בהדרגה עולם שלם מתוך תודעה אחת.
ההקדמה לסיפור השני מסבירה כיצד נולד הסיפור ופוגעת מעט באפקט. מעבר לכך, שני המונולוגים עובדים היטב והקובץ כמעט מושלם.
הסיפור השני ליליאן מקסים ומשעשע ביותר, גם הוא עם סוף מפתיע. ליליאן היא כל מה שהרי לא. היא חמה, אמפטית ומצחיקה. היא פוגשת בחור צעיר ואחרי סטוץ איתו היא מגלה שהיא למעשה מחבבת אותו. התיאור של הסטוץ קורע, ביחוד החלק שבו באולטרה מודעות ליליאן מברכת על זה שבן זוגה לסטוץ השמיע קול של כלב מוכה.
נהנתי מאוד משני הסיפורים מהרישעות של הרי קלרק ומחוש ההומור של ליליאן. חבל שלא צורף עוד סיפור קצר לקובץ זה היה פשוט מושלם מבחינתי.

Harry Clarke brings together two dramatic monologues by David Cale, each built around a character with a distinct, funny, and slightly dangerous voice.
The first is about an invented identity that gradually takes control of the person who created it. The second offers a warmer, more vulnerable and more openly comic character.
The performances are excellent in both, although the introduction to the second story explains too much and slightly weakens its effect.
Harry Clarke is the fictional identity created by an American boy whose father abuses him because he speaks with a British accent.
The character gradually takes shape, becoming increasingly vivid, absurd and entertaining. At first, the narrator pretends to be Harry Clarke for reasons that are not entirely clear.
Later, however, he finds that he cannot free himself from the character even when he desperately wants to.
Harry develops a life of his own and pushes the narrator into strange and dangerous situations, all the way to the surprising and thoroughly unhinged ending.
The second story, Lillian, is charming and extremely funny, and it also ends with a surprise.
Lillian is everything Harry is not. She is warm, empathetic and amusing.
She meets a younger man and, after a casual encounter with him, discovers that she actually likes him.
Her description of the encounter is hilarious, especially the moment when, with extreme self-awareness, she reflects on the fact that her partner made a sound like an injured dog.
I enjoyed both stories very much: Harry Clarke’s cruelty and Lillian’s sense of humor.
It is a pity that the collection did not include one more short piece. With another story, it might have been perfect.
