בספר השני בסידרת אריקה פוסטר, הבלשית ממשיכה לפענח תעלומות פשע בזמן. הוא לא נופל מהספר הראשון אבל שני דברים בעלילה הורידו את הציון שלו: העינין הראשון קשור לאופן שבו הסופר חוזר על מהלכים מהספר הראשון.
את העיניין השני לא ניתן לפרט בגלל ספויילר, אבל אציין שמדובר בטוויסט שמתרחש שני שליש לתוך העלילה, ובחשוד שהם עוצרים. מה שהופך את המשטרה ממש לחבורת סתומים כי ברור לכל בר דעת שהעצור שלהם הוא לא הרוצח. התייחסות שלי אפשר לקרוא בספויילר מטה.
החקירה מתמקדת הפעם ברוצח סידרתי שחונק את קורבנותיו באמצעות סימום ושקית התאבדות. ברינדזה בונה פרופיל רוצח פסיכי אמין ומכניס את הקורא למח של הרוצח.
העלילה קיצבית וסוחפת. אבל העיניין בספר נוצר גם מעלילת הפשע וגם מהעובדה שהסופר שוזר בה קטעים מעצבנים שמתארים את היחס של הממונים לאריקה.
לא הצלחתי להבין איך אריקה מצליחה לתפקד כל כך טוב בסביבה שובניסטית ועויינת ברמות לא סבירות. העלילה מתקדמת מרצח לרצח ומאירוע מביש אחד לאחר בחייה המקצועיים של אריקה עד לשיא הבלתי נמנע.
מומלץ בחום, צריך להגיע מוכנים כי ישנם כמה תיאורים פלסטיים לא הכי נעימים.

The second book in the Erica Foster series follows the detective as she solves more crime mysteries. While it lives up to the standard set by the first book, two issues with the plot detract from its score. The first issue is related to the author's repetition of some aspects of the first book.
I can't give you a detailed description of the second issue because it could reveal a major plot twist two-thirds into the story. It appears that the police investigation has been stopped, while a clear understanding suggests that the suspect in their custody is not the actual murderer. Please take a look at the spoiler section below for more information.
The investigation focuses on a serial killer who suffocates his victims using drugs and a suicide bag. Brindze builds a believable psychotic killer profile and puts the reader inside the killer's mind.
The book has a fast-paced and immersive plot, which creates interest for the reader. However, the author also weaves in annoying passages that describe the superiors' attitudes towards Erica, which adds to the overall intrigue of the story.
It's hard to comprehend how Erica can function effectively in a chauvinistic and hostile environment. The plot unfolds with one murder after another and a series of shameful events Erica experiences in her professional life, leading up to an inevitable climax.
It is highly recommended to come prepared because of some unpleasant plastic descriptions.
