הספר הראשון מאת איימי הרמון שתורגם לעברית היה "החוקים של מוזס" הקדים לו מסע יח"צ חסר תקדים בתולדות הז'אנר. כל כך חסר תקדים שעזבתי בצד את כל הספרים שקראתי, רכשתי לי עותק באנגלית והתחלתי לקרוא בהשתוקקות שבמהרה עברה לתחושת זוועה שאפפה אותי. נכון הספר זכה לניקוד גבוה בגודרידס, אבל גם קולו של ארצ'ר זכה לניקוד גבוה וגם אותו מצאתי הזוי ולא מספק. לכן, לא התביישתי וכתבתי את חוות דעתי המנומקת על הזוועתוטון שנקרא "החוקים של מוזס" ומאז, ב 4 שנים שחלפו מהטראומה שקיבלתי, לא קראתי שום ספר מאת הסופרת.

ברגיל, אני לא מעניקה הזדמנויות שניות לסופרים שלא אהבתי לקרוא אותם. הפילוסופיה שמנחה אותי על טעם ועל ריח אי אפשר להתווכח ואם משהו לא לטעמי, יש דגים רבים בים.

אבל משהו בתקציר של הספר "לעשות פרצופים" תפס אותי וגם האמת שעקמימות תרגום שם הספר, שמתאים יותר לגוגל מאשר למתרגם אנושי. באמת, מי מתרגם making "לשם הפועל לעשות? למה לא – עושה פרצופים? עושים פרצופים, או סתם לקרוא לספר "פרצופים"?

ומה אומר? ספר נפלא, מרגש, בשליש האחרון שלו לא הפסקתי להזיל דמעות ואני אדם קשוח מטבעי, קשה להוציא ממני דמעות, אבל הסופרת הצליחה והספר הזה הצליח ולכן הם קיבלו ממני 5 כוכבים מנצנצים.

עלילת הספר מתמקדת ב 3 דמויות ומבחינתי שלושתן ראשיות:

אמברוז, מלך הכיתה היפה והכריזמטי שקרוי על שם אביו הביולוגי שנטש את אימו.
פרן, הילדה הג'ינג'ית עם הגשר על השיניים החנונית האולטימטיבית
וביילי, המנוע והמניע הבלתי נלאה.

מאז שהיא צעירה, פרן היתה דלוקה על אמברוז, אותו ילד ששמו ניתן לו לאחר שאביו הביולוגי, דוגמן התחתונים, נטש את אימו ושמו מזכיר שיקוי תשוקה. ההידלקות הזו עם השנים הופכת לאהבה לאחר שהיא מגלה צדדים נסתרים בילד שהפך לנער ואז לגבר. אמברוז, שהיה אליל הבנות ואז הנערות והנשים מתמקד בהיאבקות ובחייו עם אביו המאמץ, אדם קשה יום שמנהל מאפייה בכדי להעניק לבנו המאומץ את כל המותרות של החיים גם כשאימו של הילד שוב נוטשת אותם.

ואז אמברוז יוצא למלחמה בעירק. הוא מרגיש שהוא חייב להתנתק מהציפיות של כל העיירה ממנו ואיתו יוצאים חבריו הטובים שלא רוצים להשאיר אותו לבד. וכשהוא חוזר, הוא פגוע והרוס ביותר מדרך אחת.

וביילי, הוא ביילי. תצטרכו לקרוא בכדי להבין מדוע ביילי הוא מבחינתי דמות ראשית לחלוטין בלתי משנית לעלילה.

העלילה נעה בין ההווה לעבר, בין הדמויות של אמברוז, פרן וביילי.
סיפור עדין, מרגש ונוגע ללב על חברות, על אומץ, על אהבה והזדמנויות שניות. על החיים שמפתיעים אותך בלי שתתכונן לזה ועל השראה והערכת הטוב שבהם.

The first book written by Amy Harmon that was translated into Hebrew was "The Laws of Moses." It was preceded by an unprecedented PR campaign in the genre's history. The campaign was so unique that I stopped reading the books I had been reading, bought a copy in English, and started reading with great anticipation. However, my excitement soon turned into a feeling of horror that engulfed me. Despite the book receiving high ratings on Goodreads, I found Archer's voice to be delusional and unsatisfying. As a result, I was not ashamed to express my opinion on the book, which I felt was a disaster. Since then four years have passed since my traumatic experience, and I have not read any of Amy Harmon's books.

I usually don't give a second chance to authors whose works I didn't enjoy. My personal preferences regarding literature are subjective and cannot be debated. If something is not to my taste, other options are always available.

While reading the synopsis of the book "Making Faces," I noticed something strange. The book's title seemed improperly translated, with the verb "to do" used instead of the more appropriate "making faces." I wondered why the book wasn't simply called "Faces" instead.

It was a fantastic book that moved me. In fact, during the last third of the book, I couldn't stop shedding tears. I'm usually a demanding person, and it's hard to make me cry, but the author and the book succeeded. That's why I gave it five sparkling stars.

The book's plot revolves around three main characters.

Ambrose, the charming class king named after his biological father who left his mother; Fern, the red-haired girl with braces, is the ultimate geek; Bailey is the tireless engine and motivator.

Since she was young, Fern had a crush on Ambrose. He was the same boy who was named after his biological father, an underwear model who abandoned his mother and whose name resembles a passion potion. Over the years, Fern's crush turned into love after she discovered hidden sides of Ambrose as he grew from a boy to a man. Ambrose was popular among girls and women, but he focused on wrestling and his life with his adoptive father, a hard man running a bakery. The adoptive father worked hard to provide Ambrose with all the luxuries of life, even when the boy's mother abandoned them again.

Ambrose decides to go to war in Iraq to break away from his town's expectations. His best friends also accompany him so he doesn't have to be alone. However, when he returns, he is hurt and devastated in more ways than one.

And Bailey is Bailey. You'll have to read the book to understand why he's a main character.

The story switches between the present and the past, following the lives of Ambrose, Fern, and Bailey. It is a heartwarming and poignant tale about the power of friendship, bravery, love, and the opportunity for redemption. The narrative explores how life can throw surprises your way and encourages us to appreciate the best it offers through inspiration and gratitude.

One of the best books I've read.
