בתחילה הנחתי שמדובר בעוד סיפור בתוך סיפור שחושף סוד מהעבר ולבסוף שני הסיפורים מצטלבים בהווה. אבל עומק העלילה המרכזית הפתיע אותי בעושר של הדמויות והתיאורים שנוגעים גם לעולם האמנות. גם הסוד שנחשף לא היה טריוויאלי והצטלבות הדרכים בהווה היתה תפורה היטב.
בצדדים המאוד חיוביים של הספר, עיצוב הדמויות במיוחד של העיירה באדלי קומפטון היה מצויין. עם קריצה אירונית על בעלי מעמד מטעם עצמם.
בצדדים הפחות טובים, הורדתי לספר כוכב, כי הסוף של הספר היה חפוז מאוד ומחורר. בגלל החיפזון, הרעיון של הזדמנויות שניות לא תפור היטב ונראה מלאכותי. גם, מאוד עניין אותי לדעת מה קרה עם הרוזן טנקרדי בסנלי ונשארתי ללא תשובות.
ספר מקסים ומאוד מומלץ גם למי שאינו חובב רומנטיקה.

The warm weather, the company, cooking together, and disconnecting from reality brings the three women closer. Gracie shares the secret of her fantastic past with her daughter and granddaughter.
Gracie weaves a story of love, loyalty, and loss in alternating chapters that shift between present and past.
Initially, I thought that the book I was reading was just another story that had a secret from the past and that the two stories would eventually intersect in the present. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the main plot, which included rich descriptions of the characters and the world of art. The revealed secret was also not trivial, and the way the characters' paths crossed in the present was skillfully woven into the story.
The character design of the town of Badley Compton was excellent, with an ironic nod to those of high social status.
I downgraded to a four-star book because the end of the book was very hasty and hollow. On the less good side, second chances are not well-sewn and seem artificial. Also, I was very interested to know what happened with Count Tancardi Basanli, and I was left without answers.
It is a highly recommended charming book, even for non-romance fans.
