בעבר קראתי ספר אחד של הסופרת "קולו של ארצ'ר" שנחשב לקלאסיקה אהובה בין חובבות הספרות הרומנטית. את הספר הזה התחלתי לקרוא באנגלית ואז גיליתי שיש לי גם את המהדורה בעברית. את החלק האחרון של הספר קראתי בעברית.
ארוסה של אוליביה ברטון נעלם. החתונה כבר היתה אמורה להיערך אבל הוא לא חזר ממסע העסקים אליו הוא יצא. אוליביה שמחפשת קלוז'ר שוכרת בלש פרטי בשם תומס והוא מגלה לה שארוסה נמצא בעיירה שכוחת אל בקולומביה. אבל עצם הידיעה שארוסה חי בקולמביה והחליט שלא לחזור, אינה מספיק לאוליביה והיא מחליטה לצאת במסע ומבקשת מתומס ללוות אותה אל העיירה שבה ארוסה חיי.
קולומביה, מדינה מוכת אסון אחרי רעידת אדמה וצונאמי. אמצעי התחבורה בקושי פעילים בה ואין תקשורת. בתחילה, תומס מנסה להניא את אוליביה מלצאת למסע. אבל כשהיא מתעקשת, תומס מתרצה. הוא בדיוק נמצא במשימה אחרת, אבל הוא מוכן להביא את אוליביה לעיירה כי זה בדרכו ליעד שלו.
וכך, בחורה צעירה שארוסה נטש אותה, יורשת מליונים עדינה ואלגנטית יוצאת למסע לעומק בוליביה עם בלש פרטי ואינה מודעת לכך שהוא למעשה שכיר חרב מסוכן ואפל.
הספר מתחיל איטי אבל מהר מאוד עם התקדמות העלילה והמסע לעומק בוליביה, קצב האירועים מתגבר. המשיכה בין תומס לאוליביה קטלנית והיא מתגברת ככל שהם ממשיכים במסע המסוכן ותומס מציל אותם מחבורת פושעים סוחרי אופיום.

אהבתי את אווירת הסכנה שאופפת את תומס, את הדמות של אוליביה שלמרות שהיא יורשת מליונים היא דמות עם אמפטיה, חמלה והמון חיוביות. אהבתי מאוד את בניית הקשר בין אוליביה לתומס. הוא מחוספס וקשוח, היא רכה וקשוחה בדרכה שלה.
לרגעים חשבתי שאתן לספר הזה 4 כוכבים, אבל כאשר הם מגיעים ליעד הסופרת מכניסה טוויסט בעלילה, שהופכת לבלגן אחד גדול בספר שהוא יחסית קצר. וסוף הספר, נו מה יש להגיד על סוף הספר? הרגשתי שהוא חפוז מידי, במיוחד לנוכח העובדה שתומס ואוליביה בילו יחד זמן נטו של שבועיים? (אולי)
לא התאכזבתי מהספר, החלק הראשון שלו היה נהדר עם עלילה קצבית, דמויות עגולות ומסקרנות ומתח שרוטט בין הדמויות כך שאפשר לחתוך את האויר עם סכין. אבל אני גם מבינה למה אין עליו המון סקירות ברשת.

In the past, I read a book by the author of Archer's Voice, considered a beloved classic among lovers of romantic literature. I started reading this book in English, but later, I discovered that I also had the Hebrew edition. As a result, I read the last part of the book in Hebrew.
Olivia Burton's fiancé has disappeared. The couple was supposed to get married, but he didn't return from a business trip. In search of answers, Olivia hires a private detective named Thomas. Thomas reveals that her fiancé lives in a remote town in Colombia. However, Olivia is not satisfied with just knowing that he is alive and living in Colombia. She decides to embark on a journey to find him and asks Thomas to accompany her to the town where her fiancé resides.
Colombia has been hit by a devastating earthquake and tsunami, leaving the means of transportation barely functioning and communication almost non-existent. Initially, Thomas objects to Olivia's decision to embark on a journey in such dire circumstances. However, after Olivia insists, Thomas agrees to take her to town since he's going to his destination.
So, a young woman left by her fiancé sets out to Bolivia with a private detective. However, she is unaware that the detective is a dangerous and dark mercenary while she is a gentle and elegant heiress with millions to her name.
The book starts slowly but picks up pace shortly as the story progresses, taking the reader on a thrilling journey through Bolivia. During this challenging journey, the attraction between Thomas and Olivia grows more vital, especially in times of danger. After this point in the plot, Thomas saves them from a gang of opium dealers.
I enjoyed the tense atmosphere surrounding Thomas and also appreciated Olivia's character. Despite being an heir to millions, she is a character with empathy, compassion, and a positive outlook. The development of the relationship between Olivia and Thomas was a highlight for me. He is rough and tough, while she is soft and uncompromising in her own way.
I considered giving this book a 4-star rating, but when the characters reach their destination, the author introduces a plot twist that creates a big mess in a relatively short book. The ending felt rushed, especially considering Thomas and Olivia only spent two weeks together (maybe).
The book did not let me down. Its first part was excellent, with a rhythmic plot that kept me engaged, well-developed and intriguing characters, and an intense tension that could be felt between the characters. However, I can also see why there aren't many reviews of it online."
