אני אוהבת את הספרים של קריסטן אשלי. הדמויות בספרים שלה, בוגרות יותר, עברו דבר או שנים בחיים שלהם. בדר"כ יש להן ילדים והן נמצאות בפרק ב' של החיים שלהן. הן מזכירות יותר את המציאות מאשר סיפור אהבה של ברבי וקן.

במובן הזה, After the Climb מתאים למאפיינים של ספרי קריסטן אשלי. אבל בהרבה מובנים אחרים, הספר הזה חלש והעלילה בו תלושה מהמציאות. אולי כי היא כתבה אותו בתקופת הסגר של הקורונה ואולי כי היא עבדה על הספר הראשון בסידרה יחד עם הקוראים שלה.

זהו סיפורם של שלושה חברים מילדות: דאנקן, אימוג'ין וקורי. אימוג'ין בת למשפחה נורמטיבית עם כסף. דאנקן וקורי ממשפחות דיספונקציונליות הרוסות. עם השנים דאנקן ואימוג'ין הפכו לזוג אוהבים שלא ניתן להפרידם. אבל, אירוע מכונן מפריד בין השלושה ובמשך שלושים שנה הקרע בינהם לא מתאחה והם לא מתראים.

במהלך השנים, אימוג'ין הפכה לשחקנית מפורסמת. היא נישאה הולידה שלושה ילדים וגם התגרשה מבעלה. דאנקן הפך למנכ"ל חברה מצליחה שעוסקת בקיימות. גם הוא נישא והביא שני ילדים ואף התגרש. עתה הוא חיי בבדידות מזהרת. קורי הפך למנכ"ל חברה טכנולוגית. הוא נישא, הביא ילד והתגרש. כולם עשירים כולם יפים ולכולם יש ילדים. החיים ממשיכים עד שטרגדיה מאלצת את דאנקן ואימוג'ין להיפגש וסודות אפלים מהעבר מתבהרים. בגידות נחשפות וגם אובדן חיים.

לסיפור יש פוטנציאל אדיר, אבל לצערי הוא לא מתממש במלואו.

קלואי, הבת של אימוג'ין, פשוט בלתי נסבלת. לא רק המילים בצרפתית שהיא זורקת מידי פעם. אלא כל ההתנהגות שלה, שגובלת בהתנהגות של ילדה ב 12, כשהיא למעשה בשנות ה- 20 שלה.

מהר מאוד בעלילה הגיבורים עוברים את המשבר שגרם להם לנתק של 30 שנים. יתר הספר עוסק בזוטות של החיים הטובים של העשירים והיפים. שום דבר מעניין לא מתרחש. לחתולה של אימוג'ין יש יותר אקשיין בסיפור מאשר לגיבורים.

מהר מאוד הכל מתיישר והחיים שלהם ורודים, יפים ובטעם של צמר גפן מתוק.

גם לא משנה העובדה ששני הגיבורים הראשיים גרושים, ושהאקסים שלהם עדין מאוהבים בהם. נראה שהכוכבים מתיישרים והאקסים גם הם הופכים לחלק מהמשפחה המורחבת. גם המפגש בין הילדים של הגיבורים עוברת חלק והדינמיקה בינהם מידע עוברת לכזו של משפחה אחת גדולה ומלוכדת.

בהתאם גם סצנות הרומנטיקה היו פושרות. אל תצפו לסצנות סקס לוהטות. הספר כולל סצנה אחת שגם היא לא לגמרי לוהטת.

סה"כ ספר טוב עם הרבה פוטנציאל שלא מתממש.

I am a big fan of Kristen Ashley's books. The characters in her stories are usually more mature and have gone through significant life experiences. They often have children and are in the second phase of their lives, which makes them more relatable than the typical love story between perfect characters.

"After the Climb" shares some of Kristen Ashley's typical features. However, it lacks several other aspects, and its storyline seems disconnected from real life. This could be because the author wrote it during the coronavirus lockdown or that she collaborated with her readers on the first book in the series.

This is the story of three childhood friends: Duncan, Imogene, and Corey. Imogen belongs to a normative family with financial stability. However, Duncan and Corey come from broken, dysfunctional families. As years pass, Duncan and Imogene become inseparable lovers. Unfortunately, a defining event causes a rift between the three, and for thirty years, they remain apart and do not see each other.

Over the years, Imogen became a famous actress. She married, gave birth to three children, and divorced. On the other hand, Duncan became the CEO of a successful sustainability company. He also got married, had two children, and went through a divorce. Now, he lives a solitary life. Corey became the CEO of a technology company. He got married, had a child, and later divorced. All of them were wealthy, attractive, and had children. Life continued until a tragedy brought Duncan and Imogen together, and long-hidden secrets from their past came to light. Betrayals were revealed, and there was a loss of life.

The story holds immense potential, yet it remains unfulfilled.

Imogen's daughter Chloe's behavior is immature and frustrating, often marked by her usage of French.

In the storyline, the main characters confront a serious problem that causes them to separate for three decades. However, after two chapters, they manage to resolve their issues and come together again. The remainder of the book mainly revolves around depicting the mundane details of the opulent lives of the attractive and affluent characters. Regrettably, nothing significant happens in the story, and even Imogen's cat has more action than the primary characters.

Everything falls into place quickly and their lives become joyful, sweet like cotton candy.

It doesn't matter that the two main characters in the story are divorced, and their exes are still in love with them. The stars are aligning, and the exes are becoming part of the extended family. The meeting between the main characters' children goes smoothly, and their dynamic changes to that of one big, close-knit family.

The romance scenes in the book are not steamy, so readers shouldn't expect to find any hot sex scenes. There is only one scene in the book that could be considered somewhat sensual.

The book was good but it had a lot of potential that was not fully realized.
